Cultural Etiquette & Monastery Guidelines
Bhutan upholds sacred traditions with reverence. When entering Dzongs, monasteries, and religious sanctuaries in Paro, please observe these customary etiquettes:
👔 Modest Dress Code
Cover shoulders, arms, and legs. Long trousers or full skirts with collared or sleeved shirts are mandatory inside Dzongs.
👟 Removal of Shoes
Remove shoes and headwear before entering temple shrines. Wearing comfortable socks is recommended on stone floors.
📷 Photography Etiquette
Photography is welcome in Dzong courtyards. Photography is strictly prohibited inside sacred temple altar rooms.
☸️ Clockwise Movement
Always circumambulate chortens (stupas), mani walls, and prayer wheels in a clockwise direction with a respectful demeanor.
